Proposed Charter Amendment Would Fund Health Screenings
About this event
Broward County Mayor Mark Bogen will discuss the history and impact of
Broward County’s health screening program, launched as a pilot in May 2023.
The program provides eligible Broward residents with screenings to detect
potential cardiac and cancer-related health issues, helping identify problems
earlier and improve health outcomes. In 2025, the Florida Panthers
Foundation contributed $1 million to support the county-funded, $10 million
initiative.
With Broward County voters set to decide on November 3 whether to extend
funding through a proposed quarter-cent sales tax increase, Mayor Bogen
will discuss the program’s benefits, its future, and the potential impact on
residents. If approved, the county’s sales tax would increase from 7% to
7.25% for five years. A question-and-answer session will follow the
presentation.
Mark Bogen currently serves as mayor of Broward County. For the past 12 years, Bogen has served as a Broward County Commissioner as well as Mayor of the County
in 2019 and currently. Bogen has been an attorney for over 43 years and was selected by the Sun Sentinel newspaper to write the weekly condo law and consumer law columns for over 20 years. In his younger years, he served as an assistant State Atty for both Broward and Palm Beach County.. During the past three years as an elected official Bogen created a cardiac pilot program that provided free cardiac scans for Broward residents at area hospitals. That pilot program helped or saved lives of over 4000 people.
