What is the advantage of Early Voting?
With Early Voting, you can vote in person at ANY of the early voting locations during a time period of at least 10 days prior to Election Day. This means you can vote at your convenience, both for time and location. You can vote at an early voting location close to home, school or work. You can vote during the week or the weekend. You can gather your extended family living across the county and vote together in one location and then celebrate your participation in the democratic process!
You may drop off completed Vote-By-Mail ballots at ANY early voting site during early voting hours. There is a special box just for VBM ballots. The completed ballot must be prepared as if you were dropping it off to be mailed: The voted ballot is placed in secrecy sleeve, which is placed in return mailing envelope, SIGNED and dated. It is helpful if you also include your email address and phone numbers. If there is a problem, this will allow SOE workers to contact you quickly.
When does Early Voting begin?
The exact date for the beginning and ending of early voting varies for each election. Florida Statute 101.657(1)(d) states: “Early voting shall begin on the 10th day before an election that contains state or federal races and end on the 3rd day before the election, and shall be provided for no less than 8 hours and no more than 12 hours per day at each site during the applicable period. In addition, early voting may be offered at the discretion of the supervisor of elections on the 15th, 14th, 13th, 12th, 11th, or 2nd day before an election that contains state or federal races . . .”
Where do I go for Early Voting?
For a general election, there are normally 20 or more sites located throughout the county, with about half located at libraries. There are fewer sites and sometimes no early voting sites for elections in limited geographical areas, such as one Congressional district, one state legislative district or city elections.
These locations will be announced at least 30 days prior to Election Day. The list of locations, dates and hours are posted on the Broward County Supervisor of Elections (SOE) website: www.browardvotes.gov. Then, click on “Early Voting.”
What do I need to bring in order to vote?
You need to bring a photo identification with signature. The quickest IDs to process are your valid Florida Driver License or Florida Identification Card issued by the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles. Other acceptable identifications can be found at: https://www.browardsoe.org/Voter-Information/Voter-ID-Requirements If your picture ID does not contain a signature, an additional document from this list which contains your signature will need to be provided.
Why do I need to show identification with a picture and signature?
ID required and checked at the polls is used solely to confirm the voter’s identity, not to verify the voter’s ID number or address. The photograph on the ID is compared to the person standing before the poll worker. The poll worker will compare this signature with the signature on the ID provided.
What if I don’t have a picture ID with a signature?
If the voter’s picture ID does not contain a signature, an additional document from the list of acceptable identifications which does contain their signature may be used in combination with the picture ID.
The address on my driver’s license doesn’t match the address in the voter registration record. Can I still vote?
Yes, the address on the driver’s license does not need to match the address in the voter registration record. If you have moved and haven’t changed your driver license to reflect your new address, that’s okay. When you check-in to obtain your ballot, you will be asked if you want to update your address, so plan for a few extra minutes to vote.
