Health Care

The mission of the Health Care Committee is to promote a health care system for Broward County that provides access to a basic level of quality health care for all its residents.

The LWV Broward Health Care Committee partners with Florida Voices for Health, the Florida Health Justice Project and other like-minded groups in a state-wide coalition committed to improve health care access by expanding Medicaid (MecEx).

FLORIDA IS ONE OF ONLY 10 STATES THAT HAS NOT EXPANDED MEDICAID, LEAVING 800,000 FLORIDIANS WITHOUT HEALTHCARE COVERAGE.

Expanding Florida Medicaid (MedEx) is a legislative priority for the 2026 ballot.

Therefore, major efforts are focused on placing Medicaid Expansion on the 2026 ballot. The new 2020 law regarding constitutional amendments by citizen initiatives has made it exceedingly expensive to run a petition drive; therefore, all efforts are focused on raising funds to underwrite this effort.
